“TOTAL Difference”

COLOSSIANS 2:9

Most of us are familiar with Total cereal marketed by General Mills Corp. Their slogan is, “See the Total Difference.” They show how Total cereal provides 100% of the your daily vitamin value for calcium, iron, vitamin E, and countless other nutrients. The difference lies in how their competitors fall drastically short in supplying this same healthy standard.

It was 60 AD and Paul was under house arrest in Rome when he wrote his letter to the Colossian church. In this letter Paul demonstrates the total sufficiency of Jesus Christ.

Paul says in Chapter 2 verse 9, the following:

“For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form.”

• Paul is saying that in Jesus Christ and Him alone, God is seen.

• There is nothing else that can be added or that is needed.

• The Colossian Church was being led astray by legalistic Jews and by Gnostics who were teaching that secret knowledge was needed to receive Salvation.

Paul’s message isn’t just for the Colossians but for us today as well. “In Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form”- we do not need to depreciate Christ with ceremonialism, legalism, asceticism or “secret knowledge”.

Christ Jesus alone is the “Total Difference”, 100% satisfactory for salvation.

A Bible Study in the Book of 2 Samuel 21:1-During the reign of David, there was a famine for three successive years; so David sought the face of the Lord. The Lord said, “It is on account of Saul and his blood-stained house; it is because he put the Gibeonites to death.”

SIX BASIC DISCIPLINES OF DISCIPLESHIP

2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”

Luke 9:23 – “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me”.

Galatians 2:20“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me”.

DISCIPLESHIPChristian discipleship is developing a personal, lifelong, loving and obedient relationship with Jesus Christ in which he transforms your character into Christlikeness, changes your values into Kingdom values and involves you in his mission in the home, the church, the community and the rest of the world.
