Main Scripture Passage: 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3-

We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers.  We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

What inspires a Christian to endure?

What inspires a Christian to withstand the relentless pounding of the World?

The Apostle Paul tells us the following in 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3:

1-He thanks God for the Thessalonians and he always mentions them in his prayers.  I wish I can be that consistent in my prayers for others.  Paul is setting the bar very high here.

2-He remembers their work.  Work that is produced by faith.  Not a shallow, self-centered work that looks for immediate reward, merit or gratification, but a work that is born out of strong faith in Christ.

This work of faith signifies their conversion to God.  (See John 6:28-29).

3-He remembers their labor.  This labor is their service to God motivated by love for Christ and love for others. The Thessalonians were examples of serving Christ out of pure love for what Christ had done for them at Calvary’s Cross.

4-He remembers their endurance.  This endurance is inspired by the hope in the Lord Jesus Christ. This is a steadfast waiting for Jesus.  The Thessalonians were undergoing persecution because of their stand for Christ. Their endurance was rooted and grounded in Christ. This hope in Jesus Christ is what enables a Christian to endure in a World that is continually aligning itself with the forces of darkness controlled by Satan.  A world that brings the constant crashing, crushing circumstances of life.

So, look at our questions in the beginning of this devotional.  Our inspiration to endure is rooted in our faith in Christ.  It is only because of God’s Grace -(undeserved favor in every aspect of our lives) that we can endure.  We draw upon His strength for this endurance.  That is how we can have God’s Peace (unruffled quietness which defies the crashing, crushing circumstances of life) in a World that continues to persecute Christians at an astonishing pace, defies God and lives for itself.

God’s Grace is what enables us to endure; through faith.  Peace is the final effect.  Peace, even in a World that is spiraling out of control!
