PSALM 103:1-5

Anthony Iovino-10-4-2007

Introduction:  I have taken this Psalm from my personal journal and would like to share with each of you the deep and profound meanings in these few verses of scripture.

Psalms 103     Read   This Chapter
103:1Praise the Lord, O my soul; all   my inmost being, praise his holy name.
103:2Praise the Lord, O my soul, and   forget not all his benefits–
103:3who forgives all your sins and   heals all your diseases,
103:4who redeems your life from the   pit and crowns you with love and compassion,
103:5who satisfies your desires with   good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s

David states something truly incredible in verse 1—(All my inmost being, praise his holy name).

-David is praising the Lord with his entire being.  His heart and Soul.

(Because there is nothing else in all the Universe that can deliver the benefits God offers).

Let us list some of the benefits that David speaks about in this Psalm:

1-“Who forgives all your sins”

-It is only by repenting of our sins and trusting God to stand by His word that you are forgiven.  The miracle is that there is forgiveness.

2-“Heals all your diseases”

-God can heal any sickness or disease.  If it is His will.  We must always pray God’s Will for our lives.

3-“Redeems your life from the pit”

-Only God can take our empty lives and fill them with His Holy Spirit.  It is only then that we can live in victory.

4-“Crowns you with Love and Compassion”

-Who loves you more than God??

-No One!

-It is only His love for us that makes us complete.

-Notice it says, “Crowns you with love and compassion”.  What a wonderful picture!!

-It gives me a sense that God is right at my side, close by gently loving and guiding me.  I am important to Him.

5-“Satisfies your desires with good things”

-God always wants the best for us.

-He will always satisfy our desires.

-He is not a Genie in a bottle that is at our beck and call.  He knows us through and through.  He created us.

-Notice it says…”With good things”..  If our desires align with His Kingdom desires, then they will be satisfied.  Let us be careful and prayerful about what we desire.

Conclusion- “So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s”.

-What does it feel like to have your youth renewed like the eagles?

-When I think of the eagle I think of – Strength, sight, power, speed, endurance, beauty, majesty.

-Do you see the picture?

-Do you see what God can do for you?

-Meditate on these verses again and think about the benefits and look at the outcome.

1-A person is regenerated by God’s power.

                -Who could pass this up?

-Who would not want what God offers?

-If you are in a position today to accept God’s offer to you, take the steps necessary to be renewed like the eagle.  Praise the Lord with all your soul.  Give your heart and life to Jesus.  Repent of your sins and ask Christ to come into your heart.

Dear heavenly Father, I praise you this day with all my soul.  With my inmost being, I praise your holy name.  I am thankful for all your heavenly benefits you offer your children- forgiveness of sins, healing of sickness and disease, renewal from a life that is fruitless.  Your great love for us is incomprehensible.  You desire what is best for us and you deliver what you promise.  You give your children victory over the evil one.  You renew our strength like the eagle’s.  Father, my prayer is for those living in bondage and hopelessness.  My prayer is that their eyes will be opened and they will see with the eyes of their hearts and turn to your son- Jesus.  Father, I also pray for those that do know your Son, but have been beaten down by the World.  Lift them up this day and renew their strength.  Set them on the narrow path and off of the wide path they may be traveling.  All good things come from you Holy Father and we are grateful for your love for us.  We are truly free to love and serve you and your Kingdom.  Continue to use us.

            In Jesus’ mighty name–Amen
