SIN OFFERING

Leviticus 5:1-NIV

“If a person sins because he does not speak up when he hears a public charge to testify regarding something he has seen or learned about, he will be held responsible”

Albert SchweitzerTheologian, philosopher, musician, has given his life to medical work among the natives of West Africa.  He has done this deliberately as some sort of restitution or repayment in part of the debt the white man owes the black for his treatment of him in the past.  We might well say that Schweitzer has given his life as a sin offering.  (see book- The Edge of the Primeval Forest- 1922).

The Sin Offering is not an offering in respect of that reality which we usually call sin.  Deliberate or willful sin, or sinning “with a high hand”, is not covered by the sacrificial system at all (see Numbers 15:30).  The sin offering is for unintended or inadvertent offences against the holiness which the Lord required of His people.

Example-

How much evil goes unchecked and gathers force because the decent people “cannot be bothered” to do anything about it!  Some of the Jewish leaders were determined upon the death of Jesus Christ, but the evidence does not lead us to suppose that the vast majority of the people directly desired it.  Why, then, did they not intervene, protest, appeal to Pilate?  Presumably this miscarriage of justice was not their affair; they “couldn’t be bothered”.  How often has that tragedy been re-enacted!

Dear Friends-

How often are Christians guilty of not wanting to be bothered?  How often do we hear and see outright sin and stand idly by?  Hear is a short list.  I am sure you may be able to add to this list:

  • Taking all references to God      out of public places.
  • Abortion.
  • Government programs that go      against Christian morals and values.
  • Godless religions taking over      our country and systematically changing our beliefs and values.
  • Churches teaching a “watered      down” Gospel.

1 Thessalonians 5:6

“So, then let us not be like others who are asleep, but let us be alert and self controlled”.

1 Peter 4:7

“The end of all things is near.  Therefore be clear minded and self controlled so that you can pray”.

The question we should be asking ourselves today is, are we guilty of not speaking up?  I believe many Christians in America are asleep.  We are permitting our country to turn into something it was not founded to be.  This great country is built on the foundation of strong Judeo Christian beliefs.  Our country was founded upon the rock that is Jesus Christ and we must do everything in our power as Christians to ensure that we continue in this direction in perpetuity.  We must not be like the rest of the world, who are asleep and watching their countries erode right under their noses. Evil is portrayed as good and good portrayed as evil.  We must be alert and self-controlled and be in constant prayer.  We must ask our Heavenly Savior to forgive us for our slumber and enable us to take action and reverse the direction our country is headed.  We must begin to let our collective voices be heard.  We must overcome our lukewarmness!  We must never forget who we are in Christ!

1 Peter 1:3-11
Praise to God for a Living Hope

3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you, 5who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

10Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, 11trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.

Revelation 3:21-22

21To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
